Mayo may already be out of the Connacht SFC, but US president Joe Biden still thinks they can win the All-Ireland.

Addressing thousands of people in his ancestral home of Ballina at the end of his four-day trip of Ireland last night, Mr Biden saved the best 'til last when declaring 'Mayo for Sam'. 

His parting words received the biggest cheer of the night and could yet inspire the Westerners to their first All-Ireland SFC title since 1951.

Earlier, former Mayo football star and current TD Alan Dillon revealed that he had asked Mr Biden to say a prayer for his county to end their All-Ireland famine.

“I asked him in his quiet moment of reflection, maybe to talk to the man above and ask him to do us some good this year on the football field," Dillon smiled.
