Tributes have flowed since the tragic passing of Tipperary hurling star Dillon Quirke last night.
The 24-year-old had been playing for his club Clonoulty/Rossmore yesterday evening in a county senior hurling championship game against Kilruane MacDonaghs at Semple Stadium when he took ill and collapsed during the first-half and was later pronounced dead at Tipperary University Hospital.
Tributes have since been pouring in for Dillon, with President Michael D Higgins posting on social media: "As President of Ireland, I wish to express my deepest sympathies on the passing of Dillon Quirke. This is an inestimable loss not only to his family and friends but to his entire community to which he was making such a contribution. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin also that he was "shocked and saddened" by the news of the Tipperary star’s death.
"My deepest sympathies to all his family, friends, his teammates, and all the community in Tipperary."
Dillon was a smashing person on and off the pitch and all of the GAA family are numb at the news tonight. My thoughts and prayers are with Dan, Olive and all of the family.

Think this photo hit me harder than any other. Dillon Quirke set off yesterday to do what all young GAA men long to do, represent his Club in Championship on a beautiful summer eve. God rest him & may the Clonoulty/Rossmore sod he graced with such elegance rest lightly upon him pic.twitter.com/Q3dWByXAU4
