I don't think a Murphy/Poacher management ticket would work as I'm sure Murphy would also like to coach the team. However it would be interesting if they were both on the same ticket or being joint managers but I just dont think it will happen. At the moment I don't think Murphy will leave Éire Óg either as he has a good thing going with them and has brought them back to the top and I believe they will be at the top for the next 4 or 5 years, whether he will still be there that far away or not. He really has brought them on since 2016 when they were beat by MLR, and has set them up well for the future. He has a great chance to win a Leinster with them (I know there's no All Ireland club series this year) especially with the likes of Gannon and B Kavanagh still there. He's maybe thinking of a 5 in a row? With Critchley ruling himself out that really only leaves Poacher to take the job which would be a brilliant thing for Carlow football, unless the county board have contacted others that haven't been mentioned on the forum. He will have the potential to impact the game in Carlow massively, in a positive way. With his willingness to share his ideas and drills, I'm sure he'll bring on all our juvenile, youth and even adult coaches which will in turn impact the future of our county teams. I don't want to sound over the top but by bringing in Poacher for 4 or 5 more years has the potential to change our games for the good. Anyway that's my opinion on this matter and I could be wrong after all! However as I said this is a crucial appointment as we dont want a man that views this as a stepping stone, this appointment could change the future and continue the fantastic work by Turlough & Co. Now is not the time to rest on our laurels and let the great work be a waste. Whoever gets the job, I will wish them well and continue to support them and the players.

Footballers 2019 Season - 2 Like(s)

Replying To supersub15:  "Even allowing for the fact that there's 3 divisions between Meath and Offaly Meath still beat them by a decent 0-02, Offaly were not in disarray going into the game like Carlow was, for example, we had no manager, no coach, no star midfielder as in Brendan Murphy, things went from bad to worse after 12 mins we lost our prolific scorer Paul Brodrick through injury, we then lost Sean Murphy for retaliation after the offender got brownie points, Carlow then lost Sean Gannon injured and that was hard to take, we also lost center back D. St Ledger along with Eoin Ruth (2 black cards) It's anyone's guess why he dished out the black cards, as for the red card well I'll leave that one for you to decide. Meath played a depleted Carlow team from the throw in, after 12 mins Carlow began to lose 4 quality players that they simply couldn't afford to lose but so be it. I would question where Meath goes from here after failing to put Carlow away when they were gifted the conditions to do just that- If the negative posts coming from the Meath camp is anything to go by, suggesting that Carlow played negative football, what will be their excuse when they play Leix."
Were you at the game supersub? Meath were too strong for us on the day. We were with them until they got the first goal. We didn't have Murphy last year but we still beat Louth and Kildare on the way to the Leinster semi final. The team that started was almost identical to the team that beat Kildare last year, I think there were 3 new players starting this year. The red card was deserved, you can't strike someone in the face. St Ledger's black was harsh but Ruth's one was a black all day, he rugby tackled the opponent which resulted in the penalty. As for Meath. They done what they had to do. 9 points up at half time and won by 15, if it wasn't for Sansom in the goal and a disallowed goal we'd be looking at a 20+ points win for Meath.

St.Mullins Vs Rathdowney - 1 Like(s)
Fantastic from St Mullins. What a great team. Marty and Jack, Seamus Murphy and James Doyle are their main men but the likes of John Doran and Mick Walsh and many others all stood up when it mattered. Seamus Murphy has a paw the size of a shovel. Last week we saw Quinlan score a point worthy of any highlight reel, well James Doyle went and done the same today. What a score to win the game. Worthy of his Man of the match award. It was great to see the scenes at the end of the game from the St Mullins people. A fantastic day for that parish and the wider hurling community of Carlow. A Leinster final to look forward to and anything can happen in a final as we know. We have one team in a Leinster final, hopefully Éire Óg will make it two next week.

Replying To Barrowsider:  "I don't think they have abandoned it. They set up with the 45 loaded with players but it was clear from the 1st minute it was going to be a one-sided affair as most would have predicted, so they pushed up but id be expecting normal service to resume for the final."
Agree with you on the defensive system, however their defence wasn't threatened much as Bagenalstown didn't pose much of a threat up front except maybe young Kane. Everything Eire Og touched turned to scores. Some of their scores were excellent especially in the conditions. They definitely would have preferred more of a test for next week. It'll be hard to see where Pal will stop their attacking threat. Pal will have the match ups for maybe 2 or 3 of the Eire Og forwards but I don't see them having the players to stop all 6 forwards, plus the 2 or 3 to come off the bench like last night. Does anyone know if Moran will be back for Pal for the weekend? I thought he was arguably Carlows best player this year and last year and would be a boost to have him back. Pal will pose a threat going forward with the likes of Jack Brennan, Crowley, Kenny and O'Neill. I reckon if Pal can stop Eire Og from getting the ball in quick and get their match ups right then they have a chance, but I think Eire Og's forwards and bench will be the winning of the game.

Tier 2 - 1 Like(s)

Replying To old yellar:  "I think we ve to give it a go in a positive way rather than doom it from the start. We are miles off a lot of teams, maybe not 1 to 16 but a cut off needed to be drawn and our/other counties form over a good many years would indicate that we re a tier 2 team. The tiers have worked for our hurlers in allowing them to be successful at their level and allowing them to build and consolidate then when facing better opposition. We talk about not wanting moral victories anymore yet we ll take a lad drawing out our name and a big guns one out of a drum at 8 30 of a Friday morning in October on radio 1 and think we re progressing. While we had a few good days, bar the kildare game, we ultimately lost all the other key games (3 v laois in one year, lge and champ I know). I don't buy this media and promotion thing. While it is great to get recognition it shouldn't hinder progress. We were the only liam McCarthy team not to get a live game this year but we still were well supported and hurled well. Weaker counties losing players to the states has also been mooted. This has been happening after first rounds and leagues for years already! I think we have to have change and whilst this might not be the best, at least it's a start."
I agree. We should approach this new format with positivity. This competition could give the footballers something to build some momentum and possibly get into tier 1. The hurlers built up serious momentum in the Christy Ring and Joe McDonagh competitions. While they didn't win a game at Liam McCarthy level they did hurl well and I'm sure they will be approaching the winter with the hunger to get back to that level. This new format will give us more meaningful games than the current format and there might actually be more lads out there who might go into the county set up as there is a chance of us winning something. While beating Kildare in Tullamore was magical, watching the hurlers walk up the Hogan Stand winning the McDonagh Cup that year was equally magical. Watching a Carlow team winning in Croke Park. Now that's what I want to see.
