Kevin Murphy struck a goal in each half as Rathvilly defeated Palatine at the second attempt to secure their 10th Carlow senior football championship crown.
It finished 2-10 to 0-11 at Netwatch Cullen Park, where Murphy’s brace of goals were the difference for Rathvilly after Liam Gavin’s late free last weekend denied Palatine and snatched them a second opportunity.
The sides had been level on 0-4 apiece 16 minutes into this replay when Murphy lashed in his first goal, but Palatine would pull back three points on the spin to leave it at 1-4 to 0-7 when the sides went in at the interval.
Palatine pushed early in the restart but Murphy’s major in the 40th minute put Rathvilly on a trajectory towards their first SFC success since 2021’s final victory over Eire Og.
