Former Tipperary star Shane McGrath says he’s intrigued to see how Offaly handle the favourites’ tag going into this Saturday evening’s crunch Leinster senior hurling championship clash against Wexford (6pm).

Eoghan Cahill converted a last-gasp ‘65’ for the Faithful men to secure a 0-24 to 1-21 draw against holders Kilkenny last Sunday, marking their second point in this year’s Bob O’Keeffe Cup race, and McGrath feels that Johnny Kelly’s side now have an excellent opportunity to progress to the All-Ireland SHC quarter-finals.

"100% they can," the 2010 All-Ireland winner said on the RTE GAA podcast this week. "Nearly every time Offaly are playing, they are not the favourites to win the match. Now, the last time they were favourites to win a match was Antrim last year, and they just about got the job done. It didn't seem to suit them that they had the favourites’ tag.

"They probably will be favourites in the Wexford match based on recent form and where they're at now in the championship.

“So I'm looking forward to seeing how Offaly handle that. How do they handle actually being the team in the Leinster championship in Liam MacCarthy, that everyone thinks they're actually going to be the favourites to win this match?"
