Ballyhale Shamrocks manager Henry Shefflin had some special praise for TJ Reid after his side’s Kilkenny senior hurling championship final win on Sunday.

The Shamrocks defeated O’Loughlin Gaels by 1-18 to 0-12 at UPMC Nowlan Park, where their captain Reid contributed 0-11 over the hour before lifting the Tom Walsh Cup on his club’s behalf.

The victory sees Ballyhale Shamrocks now standing alone at the top of the Kilkenny SHC roll of honour list on 21 titles and Shefflin lauded the team’s skipper following the club’s latest county final triumph.

“He’s just a special man. I’m delighted for him to be captain and to lead us up the steps,” the former Cats star said afterwards.

“I don’t know how he keeps going. He just loves the game. That’s what he does. Just to see some of the things he can do there at his age… I don’t even know what age he is at this stage because he just keeps going.”

On the victory itself, the Ballyhale boss added: “It is remarkable. We’re very fortunate. It’s a special place. It’s a special community. They just love hurling. That’s what they love. When we spoke at half-time, we spoke about hurling. We hurl. We keep hurling. That’s what the lads keep doing.”
