Wexford IHC faces delay after successful Bunclody appeal

HWH Bunclody have won their appeal to Leinster Council against the decision by Wexford CCC to overturn the result of last Saturday week’s Wexford IHC quarter-final against Fethard St Mogue’s.

Bunclody won the game 3-2 on penalties, but Wexford CCC subsequently awarded the game to Fethard on the basis that referee David Jenkins missed one of their points in extra-time. The tie finished in a 3-21 to 1-27 draw, but the CCC reached the conclusion that Bunclody won by a point.

Fethard were due to face St James’ in the semi-final tomorrow, but Leinster's ruling has put a spanner in the works.

“Aspects of the procedures of the CCC were not in order and have struck out their award, recommending that the matter goes back to an independent CCC to be re-heard with the referee’s result on the day standing, subject to an objection from Fethard,” a Leinster Council statement read.
