Profound sadness at passing of Cortoon and Galway's Donie Halleran

November 13, 2025

Galway fans fly their flag.

Cortoon Shamrocks have led the tributes to their goalkeeper Donie Halleran, who has passed away at the age of just 23.

Donie was an outstanding netminder who won a county IFC medal with the Shamrocks in 2020, having played for Galway in the previous year’s All-Ireland MFC final. He also represented the Tribesmen at U20 level.

“It is with deep shock and sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our player and club member Donie Halleran,” the club posted online.

“Donie represented our club with distinction and was goalkeeper on our 2020 Intermediate championship winning team playing alongside his uncle David. We were so proud to watch Donie also represent Galway at minor and U20 level. Donie always had a smile on his face and was loved by all who knew him.

“Our hearts go out to Donie’s family, friends and team-mates in this difficult time. We ask everyone to keep one and other in your thoughts and to support each other.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anam, RIP Donie.”
