Mayo are appealing the red card issued to Fergal Boland ahead of Saturday's All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-final against Derry.

The Aghamore clubman was hit with a two-game suspension after he received a straight red card following his introduction in Mayo's All-Ireland SFC Group 2 meeting with Roscommon. He was reported for striking with the elbow with force after referee Barry Cassidy's attention was drawn to the incident by linesperson Maggie Farrelly late in the game.

Boland sat out last Sunday's thrilling draw with Dublin in Hyde Park, but hopes to be available to face Mickey Harte's side as the championship finally reaches the knockout stages.
