Galway booked their place in the Leinster U20 hurling championship semi-finals after defeating holders Kilkenny on a 2-18 to 1-19 scoreline in Portlaoise last night (Wednesday).

Two goals in the space of three minutes from Darragh Counihan and Brian Callanan late in the first-half saw the Tribesmen carrying in a 2-8 to 0-12 advantage at the break.

Jack Shaughnessy and Cullen Killeen increased Galway’s advantage early in the second-half ahead of the Cats fighting back and then netting a Patrick Lacey penalty which left the minimum between the sides.

A tense finish saw Shaughnessy providing the insurance point for the Tribesmen who now advance to the semi-finals of the eastern province on May 13th.

In Tullamore, Dublin made it three wins from three by handing hosts Offaly a comprehensive 4-23 to 0-15 defeat.

Tommy Cullen and Darragh Kilduff netted the capital lads’ goal in the first-half as they took in a 2-12 to 0-9 lead at the break, with Senan Bolger grabbing both their goals in the second-half as they won out by 20 points in the end.

Wexford also found their goal scoring touch in a 5-28 to 2-14 rout of Kildare at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

The Slaneysiders’ goals came from Tom Dempsey, Sean O’Brien, Doran Daly O’Toole and Ryan Doran (2) as they comfortably advanced to the quarter-finals in the eastern province.

Meanwhile, Laois also booked their place in the knockout stages with a 2-18 to 2-13 win against Meath in Kildalkey.

Goals from Patrick O'Callaghan and Cormac Byrne saw the visitors leading by 2-10 to 1-8 at the halfway stage and Ruaidhri Kavanagh, Byrne, Conor Headen and Justin Duggan would hit scores in the second-half to ensure the O’Moore lads got over the line.
