Former Dublin star Brian Fenton reckons that Ger Brennan’s 12-week ban could serve as a damaging distraction for the Dubs in this season’s championship.
The capital men commence their Leinster SFC campaign this Sunday when they face Wicklow in Aughrim (3pm) for a place in the last four of the eastern province and, as this stand, their manager is prohibited from any matchday activity.
Having lost his appeal to the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) against the suspension he received after being red-carded during Dublin’s league clash with Galway last month, Brennan is now set to take his case to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA).
Speaking on the RTE GAA podcast this week, Fenton feels that the ban could have a negative impact on a team looking to bounce back from a disappointing league campaign which saw them relegated from Division 1.
“If Ger was there coaching, I think they'd be all in," the seven-time All-Ireland winner stated. "But I think just with the suspension and half in half out of training and potentially no communication with the players and stuff, that doesn't serve anything but a distraction for the team.
"Hopefully we might have a good decision [appeal to the DRA] on it before the weekend. But that hasn't helped."
