Louth senior star Padraic Tinnelly fired in a 55th minute goal as the Wee County edged Dublin for a 2-13 to 1-13 victory in the Leinster U20 football championship last night.

The holders bagged their second win of the campaign at Parnell Park, where they had led by 0-7 to 0-3 at half-time prior to the Dubs getting level and then conceding an Adam Gillespie penalty in the 42nd minute.

Tony McDonnell (2, 1 free) would stretch the visitors’ lead ahead of Gillespie sailing over a point and Tinnelly netting a goal, which Donnach Magee cancelled out late on as the capital lads finished three short in the end.

Meanwhile, Meath moved into the knockout stages of the competition by seeing off Laois on a 3-12 to 0-10 scoreline in Ashbourne.

Cormac O’Donoghue and Ben Corkery registered the goals that sent the Royals towards a 2-4 to 0-7 half-time lead and they’d hit the first five points of the restart to extend their advantage to eight.

Eoin Johnson (free) ended a scoring drought for Laois in the 51st minute before Pat Crawley well and truly settled the issue for Meath by hammering in their third goal.

In Clonguish, Longford came from behind to dish out a 2-20 to 1-13 defeat to Carlow.

Jamie Coakley’s goal had helped the Barrowiders towards a 1-4 to 0-4 lead by the midway stage of the first-half, but the hosts netted a Cormac Flynn penalty in the 23rd minute and got points via paddy Mollahan and James Hagan to lead by 1-10 to 1-6 at the break.

Luke Donnelly’s goal gave the Midlanders the perfect start to the second-half and the same player would add a two-pointer ahead of late score from Conor McHugh, Mollahan and Hagan flying over the Carlow crossbar.

Meanwhile, Westmeath recorded a 1-14 to 2-8 win over Wexford at Chadwicks Wexford Park to bounce back from their opening round loss to Louth.

Will Scahill’s goal in the 38th minute proved to be key for the Lake County who saw a couple of Cillian Rochford points backed up by a Taylor Slevin two-point free late on.

Kildare made it two wins from two by handing Offaly a 1-17 to 1-12 defeat in Hawkfield.

Four two-pointers inside the opening 20 minutes saw the Lilywhites up by 0-10 to 0-1 and they’d add another through Ronan Kelly (free) ahead of Dylan Dunne pulling back a sorely needed goal for Offaly.

The home side went on to lead by 0-13 to 1-4 at the break and the goaled through Colm Moran midway through the second-half before winning out by five in the end.
