Louth manager Ger Brennan says he had to make considerable changes to his planned line-up for yesterday’s Allianz Football League clash with Westmeath as a result of Storm Éowyn and poor weather in the county so far in 2025.
Brennan claims he made 10 changes to the team he’d originally planned for yesterday’s clash in Mullingar, where Sean Reynolds’ late goal sealed the visitors a 1-17 to 0-18 victory in their Division 2 opener.
Speaking to RTE Sport after the game, the Wee County boss cited Friday morning’s storm and not being able to get enough training sessions for some players as his reason for the vast changes to his team on Sunday afternoon.
"We had quite an experienced team named (during the week)," said the former Dublin defender.
"We pushed hard to try to get some of those lads onto the field, being conscious of how important that first game is and between the storm, the frost a few weeks ago and all sorts of injuries and not getting the chance to play different lads, we had to kind of think on our feet.
"On Saturday morning, we had to make an awful lot of changes to the set-up, but I'm very happy with the guys who came in.
"I think there were five or six debuts there to the senior team, which is a huge positive for Louth football going forward, and the return of a couple of older guys who played before Emmet Carolan and Andy McDonnell, they are big inclusions as well."
