Kilkenny and Wexford enjoyed facile victories over Offaly and Laois respectively in yesterday’s Leinster U20HC quarter-finals.

Patrick Lacey bagged 3-5 as Henry Shefflin’s young Cats swatted aside Offaly by 5-23 to 1-10 at UPMC Nowlan Park. Lacey signalled his intent with a goal inside the opening minute before further majors from the same player and Ruarc Sweeney propelled the hosts into an unassailable 3-11 to 0-1 lead after 24 minutes.

Senior panellist David Barcoe also got in on the goalscoring act to make it 4-16 to 0-2 at the break.

Greg Kelly raised Kilkenny’s fifth green flag after the restart before Andrew Hogan managed a late consolation goal for the outclassed visitors from a penalty.

Wexford also put Laois to the sword at Laois Hire O’Moore Park with a 5-16 to 0-10 victory. The visitors led by 2-8 to 0-4 at the interval thanks to goals from Sean O’Brien and Tony Dempsey.

There was no respite for the home side after the restart when Ronan Shannon, O’Brien and Jack Dunne banged in further majors to secure Wexford’s place in today’s semi-final draw alongside Kilkenny, Dublin and Galway.
