MEP Ciaran Mullooly has criticised the Connacht Council for increasing children's stand ticket prices for last Sunday's Connacht SFC semi-final between Mayo and Roscommon in Castlebar from €5 to €35.
The decision resulted in thousands of empty seats and a disappointing attendance of 15,321 for the local derby which Roscommon won with surprising ease.
Connacht GAA CEO John Prenty said last week that the controversial decision was made for ‘logistical and economic’ reasons after the provincial body had lost €250,000 in the last two years.
"Message for Connacht GAA: maybe review the stand ticket price rise and study chapter on customer care," an unimpressed Mullooly posted on social media.
"I’m sitting on terrace with Mayo fans evicted from stand, season ticket seat that is now empty! Brutal management."
