Derrygonnelly Harps have been awarded the Fermanagh SFL title after the county’s CCC reversed a previous decision to order a replay of last August’s final against Erne Gaels.
The Harps’ 0-17 to 0-15 victory was overshadowed by a couple of disputed two-pointers in the closing stages. Footage from Fermanagh GAA TV showed that the two-pointers from Jarlath Flanagan and Stephen McGullion were kicked from inside the 40-metre arc and should have been recorded as one-point scores, leading to the Gaels lodging a successful appeal.
However, Fermanagh CCC has now overruled that decision on a number of grounds, including difficulties in finding a suitable date for a replay. Erne Gaels went on the retain the New York Cup under former Donegal player and manager Declan Bonner, who has since taken the county team reins.
But it’s believed they are still eager for the League final to be refixed and are likely to challenge this latest decision.
