Croke Park will be transformed into a Europa League final fan zone in the event of Liverpool being involved.

The final on Wednesday, May 22 is taking place in the nearby 52,000-capacity Aviva Stadium, but with Liverpool having a huge fan base both in Ireland and abroad, plans are in place to have a spill-off event at Croke Park that would see large screens installed in the middle of the pitch and would cater for ticket-less supporters.

Protective covering for the pitch will be in place as Croke Park is hosting a Bruce Springsteen concert the previous Sunday. Liverpool play the second leg of their last 16 game against Sparta Prague tomorrow with a 5-1 lead from the first leg.

Rangers are also still in contention to qualify for the Europa League final and, according to Sky Sports, UEFA is 'making contigency plans' for the possibility of a Rangers v Liverpool final.

The story about the possible Croke Park fan zone was first reported by The Independent’s Chief Football Writer, Miguel Delaney.
