Cavan 1-11 Meath 1-8

The visitors played with the aid of a strong wind in the opening half and were on the scoreboard first through half back and captain Senan Macken. Despite playing against the elements Meath dominated the next ten minutes and were rewarded with points from Cormac Nuggent and Evan Kelly along with a fine goal from Pat Crawley. Cavan worked themselves back into the game and by the 25th minute they were in front with seven unanswered points. Adio Metlovas pointed from a 45, Joshua Sheue (2), Jamie Clarke, Freddie McGuigan, Andrew Hill and Tyler Hayes accounted for that scoring burst before Nuggent added his second and Cavan went in at the break 0-8 to 1-3 in front. 

Ciaran Sheridan narrowed that lead with the first point of the second half. Odhran Madden and Mackenzie Doyle traded points before the games crucial score arrived, Shercock’s Andrew Hill blasting to the Meath net after 13 minutes. Jake Madden and Cillian Rafferty pointed to leave two between the sides, but Cavan responded with a Ryan Nwaneri point. Kelly reduced the lead to two once more and the Royals looked set to take the lead but Senan Duffy’s goal bound shot came back off the upright. Sheue kicked the insurance point for Cavan soon after and the Gerry Reilly Cup was heading to the Breffni County for the 7th time and the first time since 2016.

After the game Cavan’s Joshua Sheue was presented with the ‘Man of the match’ award by Martin & Andre Reilly with Eddie O’Reilly

The Reilly family were in attendance to present the Cup, in memory of Gerry Reilly who tragically died in 1989. Oldcastle GFC were delighted to have Gerry’s mother Claire at the match, which she really enjoyed. Martin and Andre Reilly presented the Cup to winning captain Senan Macken, a Castlerahan man, to great applause from all the Cavan supporters.
