Football update…hard luck to the ladies who had a narrow 1 goal defeat to Drumgoon on Sunday morning.  The girls remain in contention in the 9 a side competition so hopefully they will have better days ahead.  Well done to the Senior lads who continued their positive start to the new campaign with a well deserved draw against Denn played in Crosskeys last Sunday.  The Reds put up a brave display playing much of the match with 14 men and Jack Wharton with a well executed penalty put the team 3 points up and 5 minutes left but then forced a draw at the end with a well taken free kick.   Final score Cornafean  1 - 9  Denn  0 - 9

CLUB NOTES

Best of luck to the Reserve Reds on this Saturday evening when they take on Denn in Cornafean at 6 p.m. and to the Senior Lads who play Drumalee in Drumalee on Sunday at 2 p.m..

Cornfean Senior Men
Cornafean 1 - 9   Denn 0 - 12

Despite missing some key players through injury and suspension, the Reds put in a gritty and hard working display to share the spoils against Denn on Sunday afternnon.  The home stars were first out of the blocks with two points but J. Wharton settled the Reds with a point on 12 minutes.  Once again Denn scored points in the 14th and 15th minues but again the Wharton brothers Jack with two frees and Dan a cracker from play levelled the game.  Cornafean lost a player to two yellow cards and Denn finished the half with two points from play to leave it Reds 0 4 to Denn 0 - 6 at the break.  The Reds were like a wounded animal after the break and really began to take the game to their opponents.  Jack Wharton was on fire with two great points from play and another from a line ball but Denn hit back with a good score in the 8th minute.  Cornafean were working hard at this stage of the game but particularly outstanding were J. Miney, P. Woods and M. Johnson.  Indeed J. Miney crpet up from the backline to put over a cracker and when Jack creashed home a penatly after a foul on E. Goldrick the Reds with 14 men were 4 points to the good with a quarter of the the game remaining.  Once again Denn hit back with two frees but on the 25th minute Mark Johnson made his way from the back line to slot over the score of the game and put 3 points between the teams.  Denn also lost a player to a straight red card at this stage of the game but with only five mnutes left o the clock Denn stuck at it to level the game with 3 late points, one from play and two frees.
