Cavan Gaels club notes
June 18, 2012
Vincent Coyle Cavan Gaels
Friends of Cavan Gaels
Pleased to announce that Planning Permission has been granted for our proposed developments in Terry Coyle Park. We are contacting as many as possible of former Cavan Gaels players, at home and abroad, in connection with these proposed developments. We are also in the process of contacting all local Cavan Gaels supporters.
Brochures, detailing the planned developments and the various methods of payment, are being distributed at present. Those who have distributed brochures are reminded that we need to have feedback as soon as possible. We are setting the end of June as a deadline. If, for some reason, you have not received a brochure, you can do so by making contact with any of our club officers. It is important that all club people support this important club development. Thanks to all those who have already contributed generously.
Division One
Our division one team continued on their winning ways on Sunday last when they secured a home victory over Ramor United. We got off to an impressive start and were in control for most of the game. Ramor did have a period of ascendancy in the second half and reduced the arrears. But the home side rallied to leave a nine point margin between the teams. Richie Murphy, John Gurhy, Niall Gurhy, Dallan McCormick, John Fortune, Darragh Sexton, Levi Murphy. Sean Reilly, Eamonn Reilly, Niall Smith, Declan Meehan, Robert Maloney-Derham, Martin Dunne, Niall Collins, Conor McClarey. Subs. Gavin Duffy, Enda King.
Division Two
Our division two team entertained Butlersbridge on Sunday last and emerged with a two point victory. We dominated for various stages in the game but our scoring did not reflect our periods of dominance. Declan Meehan, Sean Hanley, Shane McGlade, Sean Fitzsimons, Damian Kellegher, Karol Crotty, Cian McKiernan, Ed O Hanlon, Paul Graham, Vinny Coyle, Ronan Farrelly, Ryan Johnston, Andy Graham, Paul O Connor, Pauric Sexton. Subs. Christy Quinn, Richie Murphy, Shane Byrne.

Best of luck to our féile team who travel to Laois-Offaly this coming week-end. They play O Dempsey's in Killenard on Friday next at 3pm. The following day they play Ballylinan Glenmore in Killenard at 11am. Their final first round game is also in Killenard when they play the Wicklow champions at 12.30.
Under-13
Our under-13s travelled to Castlerahan in the first round of the league on Friday last and had a comfortable victory. Our next game is at home against Kingscourt.
Under-10/Under-8
Our under-8s and under-10s travelled to Drumlane for challenge games on Saturday last. Both sides acquitted themselves well. There will be an under-10 blitz in Ballyhaise on Saturday next beginning at 10.30. Parents are asked to have the players in Ballyhaise not later than 10.15.
Under-12
Our under-12s are having a good season so far with impressive performances in the spring league. Well done to all concerned.
Oliver Plunketts Hurling Club
Best of luck to the new under-age hurling club which comprises Drumalee, Killygary and Cavan Gaels. We wish Eoin Morrissey and Francis Clarke every success in their attempts to revitalise hurling in the Cavan town parish area. The launch of this new team took place in Breifne College on Saturday morning last.
Camogie
Our camogie team play Denn in the final on Sunday next 24 June in Drumgoon at 5pm. Best of luck to them.
Golf Classic
Our annual golf classic will take place in County Cavan golf club on Friday 13 July. The response so far has been very positive. This year's event is again kindly sponsored by Donal Keogan, Imperial Bar and Restaurant. Inquiries can be addressed to J.J. Reilly on 086-1005303.

1915 Medal
An interesting medal has come to hand. It is a 1915 Cavan junior championship medal with the name Patrick Brady inscribed on it. Cavan Slashers won the junior title in 1915 defeating Crosserlough by 1-3 to 1-2 in Gowna. Patrick Brady lined out at midfield for the Slashers. Anyone who might know something about this Patrick Brady is asked to phone 086-1005303.
Information on Club Successes
A reminder to people that a very comprehensive account of all the Cavan Gaels senior championship successes is available, courtesy of Mícheál Smyth, on the Cavan CYMS website cavancyms.com Click on "About Us" and then on " Published" and you will see the relevant link. Also included is an account of all the Cavan Slashers senior championship wins and all of Cavan's All-Ireland victories. Mícheál's research also covers the Cavan Gaels under-age successes as well as all the victories of Cavan Harps.
Bréifne Abú
Congratulations to George Cartwright on his recent publication Bréifne Abú, a veritable cornucopia of records of Cavan football, hurling and handball during the period 1886 and 2011. It is an invaluable reference book and the product of many years of research. It will settle many an argument and will be a boon for quiz question setters. This book should especially appeal to the Cavan diaspora.
