Division 2 Reserve League Semi  Final

Cornafean 1-15   Drumlane 1-14

Cornafean and Drumlane locked horns in a very enjoyable Reserve League Division 2 semi final played in Cornafean on Saturday evening last.  The early goal scored by the visitors was literally the difference between the teams for the majority of the game but the introduction of some late substitutions helped the Reds to nick the result literally on full time.  Drumlane led by 4 pts at the break 1-10 to 1-09 and deservedly so as they were proving to be a very mobile and accurate opponent  David Egan kept the Reds in touch with his accuracy from play and placed balls and was ably assisted  by W. Johnson, C. McSeain, A. Smith and J. McGahern.

Both teams shared 4 pts in the third quarter of the game, C. McSeain and Shane Doyle scoring for the Reds leaving the visitors up by 4 and a quarter of the game remaining.  The game really came to life in the last 15 minutes.  Andrew Smith kicked a great 45 between the posts but the visitors cancelled it out almost immediately.  The Reds were playing with more urgency and excellent scores followed from Dean Kilkenny and Shane Doyle.  When the unfortunate Drumlane goalkeeper dropped a David Egan free into the net the Reds were a point ahead and all the momentum had swung in their favour with time almost up.  Credit to Drumlane, they attacked once more and levelled proceedings.  Just when the match looked like going to extra time Dean Kilkenny fielded brilliantly on the 45 yard line offloading to the inrushing Aodghan Smith who split the posts sending the Reds into the Division 2 League final.  Well done to the players and management.
