Jim Comiskey RIP

The recent passing of Jim Comiskey, Behey was received with sadness by those who remember him in the Coronea/Cornafean and Arva areas. Jim who was in his 80th year died peacefully in Cavan General Hospital after a short illness.  In his younger years Jim initially worked for the late Michael Cox, Coronea making blocks and delivering coal.  Jim then moved to the Roadstone Quarry in Coronea where he worked for many years until it's eventual closure.  Jim then joined the renowned Sisk Construction Company and worked for some years on the construction of Cavan General Hospital until his retirement.  In his spare time Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the renowned Shancor Hunt Club and the sounding of the hunting horn in Coronea Graveyard as Jim was laid to rest was a very beautiful and fitting tribute to him.   As a young man Jim was a member of Cornafean Athletic Club and he played both junior and senior football for the Reds being remembered as a very reliable cornerback.  Jim was predeceased by his Father who died prematurely many years ago and his Mother who passed away in her 101st year in 2016.

Jim will be sadly missed by his brothers, John, Tom and Michael, sisters Mary, Kathleen and Agnes, extended family and many many friends.  Jim's funeral mass celebrated by Fr. Charlie O'Gorman took place on Tuesday last in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Coronea and he was laid to rest in the adjoining Cemetery.  May he rest in peace.

Division 2 Reserve Championship

Cornafean 4-12    Drumalee  2-16

This was a very enjoyable Reserve Championship match played in beautiful sunshine in Pairc Naomh Fionnan on Saturday evening last.  The teams were evenly matched and with both sides playing open and attacking football, scores came thick and fast.  First half goals from John Martin and a hatrick from the flying Jack Traynor laid the foundations for this victory and had the Reds up by three at the break.  Another highlight from the game was a brilliant penalty save from goalkeeper Shane Cullivan in the first half and he also made some other vital stops over the course of the match.  The Reds went on to score a further 8 pts in the second half and were able to hold off the challenge of a never say die Drumlaee team to record a deserved 2 pt victory.  Well done to the team and subs.
