St Kilians senior ladies.

St Kilians secured the Division 4 League title with a comprehensive win over Shannon Gaels in Drumlane on Sunday evening. Understandably there were a few nerves on show in the early stages. The eventual winners trailed at half time after playing into a strong breeze by a score of 1 -2 to 1- 4 with the goal coming courtesy of an excellent finish by Beth Farrelly McGee and the Shannon Gaels goal coming from a contentious but well taken penalty. The highlight of the first half was a delightful left footed score from 30 metres by Lauren Carpenter.

It was almost one way traffic in the second half as St Kilians took complete control. Captain Naomi Smith and Una Carolan were in particular outstanding in the half back line with Ashleigh McCabe covering every inch of the Drumlane pitch. Edwina Olwill started to find her range with some superb frees and was quickest to react when her own free came back off the upright to fire to the net. The excellent Lauren Carpenter struck for 2 goals in quick succession with Shannen Smith also getting in on the goal scoring act. Some superb points from from Beth Farrelly McGee, Ashleigh McCabe and Naomi Smith kept the scoreboard ticking over as the Shannon Gaels challenge wilted under enormous pressure with the excellent Amanda McQuade, Christina Brady and Vice Captain Michelle Taite keeping the West Cavan forwards at bay while goalkeeper Rose Smith showed her usual composure and found her target every time from her brilliant kickouts. The work rate of Lauren Carpenter Beth Farrelly McGee Lisa Smith and Ellen Smith in the forward line was one of the highlights of what was an excellent team performance. A late Shannon Gaels goal  failed to take the gloss of a great win for St Kilians who had the luxury of giving many of their panel a well deserved run out on the big day. St Kilians will now look forward to the challenge of Division 3 football for 2018.
