Referee James Owens has come under fire from Carlow players and supporters after Chris Nolan was controversially sent off against Antrim.

Nolan was issued with a straight red card in the do-or-die Leinster SHC clash at Corrigan Park for his part in a melee which involved nearly every player on the field just after the half-time whistle. The dismissal was a huge setback to the Barrowsiders who went on to suffer a 2-22 to 4-22 defeat and were relegated straight back to the Joe McDonagh Cup.

Taking to social media after the game, Carlow star Jack Kavanagh labelled the dismissal as ‘scandalous’, while former player Paul Coady felt the decision warranted just as much debate on RTÉ as Galway midfielder David Burke’s red card against Dublin did on the same day.
