Cavan came through a tricky test again Carlow today to record a third straight win in Division 4 of the Allianz Football League.

It finished 0-19 to 1-12 in favour of the hosts at Kingspan Breffni, where they led by two (0-11 to 0-9) after shooting into a stiff breeze for the first-half.

Points from Patrick Lynch (2) and Padraig Faulkner helped the Breffni men go on to open up a seven-point lead, but they wouldn’t cruise to the victory as Niall Hickey’s 58th minute goal threatened to throw a spanner in the works.

Colm Hulton’s point reduced the Barrowsiders’ deficit to three before Cavan saw midfielder Thomas Galligan red carded but points from Gearoid McKiernan (2) and Caoimhin O’Reilly would be enough to see out the win for Mickey Graham’s men.

In Dungarvan, Andy Moran’s Leitrim side were simply too good for Waterford as they earned a second victory of the campaign on a 2-17 to 1-13 score-line.

Keith Byrne was in sensation form for the visitors as his eight first-half points saw them leading 0-10 to 0-8 at the break and he’d add four more to his personally tally after the turnaround.

Darragh Corcoran’s had put Waterford ahead early in the restart but the Connacht side soon took control and goals from Tom Prior and Darragh Rooney cushioned their victory.

The division’s earlier game this afternoon saw Wexford condemning London to their first loss of the campaign with a 0-11 to 1-6 win in Ruislip.
