Kilcormac/Killoughey Camogie Notes

The Kilcormac/Killoughey U12 girls.

U12 Championship:

Our U12s were out this week with matches against Naomh Bríd and Shamrocks. The girls played very well but were unlucky to come away without a win.

U14 Championship:

Our U14s played Shamrocks in Mucklagh on Thursday evening. The girls won well against a strong Shamrocks team with a final score of 9-04 to 5-01.

U8 Blitz:

Well done to our U8s who had their blitz in O’Brien Park on Saturday morning. The girls played Tullamore, Shinrone and St. Sinchill’s in very close games.

U10 Blitz:

Our U10s had their blitz on Sunday morning in Lusmagh and played very tough games against Lusmagh, Ballinamere/ Durrow and Kinnitty. Well done to the girls on a great morning of camogie.

Junior Cup:

Our Junior team had a convincing win against Belmont in the first round of the Junior Cup on Sunday evening.

Teri Delaney opened the account for K/K with a point from play that was quickly followed with a second from Aideen Quinn. Saorah Doyle let in a good pass to Teri Delaney who put the ball over the bar. Aideen Quinn then scored K/K’s first goal after a pass from Isabella Gleeson and shortly after scored again after a pass from Orla Kilmartin. Wing back Brianna Commins stopped a Belmont attack and let the ball back out to Aideen Quinn who converted it into a score. Teri Delaney won a free that she sailed over the bar and then won the ball again and passed it out to Aideen Quinn who scored her second goal. Isabella Gleeson then managed to gain possession of the ball and score her point. Lucy Lowry shortly after got a strike away at goal that dribbled in over the line. After working hard in the corner, Anna Doherty scored a point that was followed with two in a row from Teri Delaney. Áine Rigney came up from the half back line and got her hands on the ball and scored a goal. Belmont then had their first serious chance at a goal but the ball was collected up and cleared by corner back Sarah Meacle. The half finished with points from Áine Rigney and Caoimhe Quinn leaving the scoreline 4-14 to no score.

Rachel Guinan was first on the ball at the start of the second half with two quick points from play. Teri Delaney scored another free before passing the ball to Claudia Casey who flicked the ball into the back of the net. The Belmont forwards got on the ball again and went forward but were blocked by Sally Talbot and the ball was cleared by Clodagh Murphy. The K/K forwards then scored a spree of points coming from Claudia Casey, Teri Delaney, Sarah Doherty and Sarah Grimes. After a few minutes, Rachel Guinan scored another point and was followed by Lily Hand. Sarah Doherty passed a ball to Rachel Guinan who scored another goal and the game was wrapped up with points from Lily Hand and Claudia Casey. In the last few minutes of the game, Belmont won a free that they converted into a point. The girls won well against a good Belmont team with a final score of 6-26 to 0-01.
