Big Joe: poacher turned gamekeeper?

December 17, 2016

Joe Sheridan

Joe Sheridan has made a sensational return to the Meath football panel.

And according to the Irish Independent, new manager Andy McEntee is considering playing the erstwhile full forward as a goalkeeper! The Royals take on Roscommon in a SF challenge in Kiltoom today and the prospect of the 32-year-old making his first inter-county appearance in over three years is likely to attract a few extra curious spectators to the Athlone venue.

Ironically, Meath's current number one - Paddy O'Rourke - had a brief stint in the full forward line alongside Sheridan during Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney's reign.

Bryan Menton has also returned to the panel, but promising midfielder Harry Rooney is expected to spend the coming year abroad.
