All-Ireland hurling champions Clare were named Irish Sports Council Team of the Year at tonight's RTE Sports Awards.

Team captain Patrick Donnellan accepted the prestigious award from Minister Michael Ring at the televised event. Earlier, Davy Fitzgerald had picked up the Sports Manager of the Year award. The Sports Person of the Year award went to champion jockey Tony McCoy.

Unlike the other two awards, the Team of the Year award was chosen by a public vote. The other teams nominated were the Cork ladies footballers, the Dublin footballers, the Galway camogie team, the Ireland men's boxing team, the Ireland women's rugby team, the Leinster rugby team, the Paralympics swimming team and the St. Patrick's Athletic soccer team.
