Cork GAA is mourning the death of legendary hurler Din Joe Buckley, who was the last surviving member of the team that won a four-in-a-row of All-Ireland titles between 1941 and '44.
The 90-year-old was the most famous of three brothers who represented both Glen Rovers and St. Nicholas as well as Cork with distinction. Connie captained the 1941 Cork All-Ireland winning team before emigrating to England, while Jack was on the successful 1942 team.
Din Joe actually won five All-Ireland medals - picking up his fifth in 1946 after having played on all of the four winning teams between '41 and '44.
Between them, the Buckley brothers won seven All-Ireland senior hurling, 25 county hurling championship and five county football championship medals. Din Joe also won National League medals in 1941 and '49, and, like his brothers, enjoyed colleges success with the famed North Mon.
He played at corner back, centre back and wing back on the great Cork four-in-a-row winning team.
