Antrim star Patrick Finnegan is in a race against time to be fit for St Brigid’s Ulster club senior football championship quarter-final against Tyrone champions Edendork this weekend.

Finnegan sustained a pulled calf muscle during the second half of St Brigid’s county final victory over O’Donovan Rossa last Sunday week and faces a battle to recover in time for Saturday’s trip to Omagh

Speaking to BelfastLive.co.uk this week, manager Cathal Murray said he is hopeful that Finnegan can feature, with the player receiving treatment ahead of the provincial campaign.

“We’re still hopeful – he’s getting physio and treatment,” he said.

“We're hoping that he'll be fit. He had three weeks, really, from when it happened, so it’s just fingers crossed with him.

“He pulled a muscle in his calf late on – it was just disappointing for Patrick, but these things happen in the rough and tumble of Championship football.”

The Belfast side will make their debut in the Ulster club SFC against an Edendork which defeated Clonduff of Down by five points last weekend in Newry.
