The majority of inter-county footballers are opposed to further rule changes, according to the Gaelic Players Association’s 2026 Member Survey.

The survey found that 76% of players want no further changes to the football rules, while 23.5% would support minor adjustments. Just 0.5% believe significant changes are needed.

GPA chief executive Tom Parsons said players are largely happy with the current game following this year’s rule changes, with little appetite for another major overhaul.

“The consensus from the players is that they're really happy with the current rules in football and hurling,” Parsons told RTÉ Sport.

“Particularly in football this year, with the change in rules. There's definitely not an appetite for major changes. If there's tweaks, that may be supported by players.

“But major changes like the three-point rule, I don't think that'll be a flier with players.”
