The Waterford SFC final will pit The Nire against Rathgormack for the fifth time in six years.
The familiar foes set up a repeat of last year’s decider when overcoming Abbeyside-Ballinacourty and Gaultier in their respective semi-finals at Azzurri Walsh Park. The Nire pulled away for a 0-12 to 0-5 victory after being level with Abbeyside-Ballinacourty at 0-3 apiece at half-time. Aaron Ryan, Aaron Beresford, Sean Callaghan, Conor Gleeson, Sean Walsh and Dermot Ryan were all on target for the winners.
In the other last-four tie, four-in-a-row chasing Rathgormack edged out Gaultier by 1-14 to 0-15 to reach their eighth consecutive final. A first half goal from James Power, coupled with 0-6 from play from Stephen Curry, proved key to Rathgormack’s win.
The holders, who led by 1-8 to 0-7 at the break, have now won 20 Waterford SFC games on the bounce as they close in another Conway Cup.
