Former X Factor finalist Eoghan Quigg declared himself ‘ecstatic’ after helping his adopted Doire Trasna to Derry JFC glory last weekend.
Quigg, who was runner-up to winner Alexandra Burke and second-placed JLS on the hit TV singing talent show in 2009, scored 0-7 (0-4 from play) as the Waterside outfit defeated Ballerin by 2-12 to 2-7. Lining out at full forward, the 34-year-old has proved himself to be a major addition to Doire Trasna since transferring from Dungiven in 2019.
“I'm a bag of emotions, I'm ecstatic. I burst into tears as soon as the final whistle sounded there,” he told the Derry Journal.
“I'm just so happy for the community here. I came here six or seven years ago and how do you get to know the local community? You join the local GAA club.
“They welcomed me with open arms. I just thought to myself they've done so much for me that I have to deliver at least one championship for them. Thankfully we done that today.”
