Tooreen claimed their sixth consecutive Mayo senior hurling championship title with a convincing 2-29 to 0-20 victory over Ballyhaunis at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this afternoon.
David Delaney proved instrumental in the win, scoring two goals in as many first-half minutes to give the holders a commanding advantage over their rivals.
Tooreen would hold a 2-14 to 0-11 lead at the break and continued to dominate after the change of ends in Castlebar.
Delaney brothers, David, Eoin and Fionn were influential throughout, while captain Fergal Boland contributed four points and Liam Lavin added five as Tooreen showcased their attacking quality.
Ballyhaunis struggled to break down a resolute Tooreen defence and relied heavily on Cormac Phillips’ free-taking to keep the scoreboard moving. Despite their efforts, the champions remained in control to secure their 36th county title and extend their remarkable run of dominance in Mayo hurling.
