Stakelum and Creedon goals help Sars secure Tipperary SHC final return

Thurles Sarsfields punched their ticket into the Tipperary senior hurling championship final thanks to a 2-18 to 1-14 win against Nenagh Eire Og at FBD Semple Stadium.

Nenagh opened up an early 0-5 to 0-2 lead in Thurles and held the advantage until Sars sent over four unanswered points to finish the first-half and edge a 0-10 to 0-9 lead at the break.

Nenagh got back on level terms early in the restart, but the 36-time champions responded with a brilliantly taken goal by Darragh Stakelum to regain control.

The lead would be stretched to four ahead of Paddy Creedon sending in Sars’ second goal off the back of superb work by the returning Ronan Maher at full-forward.

Sam O’Farrell netted a late consolation goal at the other end as Thurles went on to record a seven-point win which sees them into their first county final in three years. 

Tomorrow’s other semi-final in the Dan Breen Cup race sees JK Brackens take on Moycarkey Borris at FBD Semple Stadium at 3.45pm.
