Armagh minnows end 18-year losing streak

One of the longest losing runs in the GAA came to an end last weekend when Armagh club Mullabrack recorded their first championship win in 18 years.

Based in a largest loyalist area outside Markethill, ‘The Brack’ broke their duck with a 3-8 to 0-14 Armagh JFC preliminary quarter-final victory over neighbours Lissummon on Friday night. James Rice, Conor McCann and substitute Owen Quinn struck the goals as they outscored their opponents by 1-5 to 0-1 down the home stretch to win in style.

Lissummon had led by 0-9 to 1-2 at half-time, but Rice’s goal straight after the restart gave Paul Dynes’ charges the impetus to go on and win. Mullabrack can now look forward to a quarter-final meeting with 2024 champions Collegeland this weekend where they will hope to cause another upset.

Mullabrack won their only JFC in 1983 and went out of existence in 2010 before reforming in 2019.
