Central Council "overwhelmingly" agrees to maintain Allianz partnership

The GAA has reaffirmed its partnership with Allianz following discussions at management committee and Central Council level today and yesterday.
The issue was revisited after correspondence from Tyrone GAA, which had raised concerns over the sponsorship.
Following a report from the Ethics and Integrity Commission last December, the GAA opted to retain the partnership, warning that ending the agreement would make it “impossible to secure an alternative insurer that would not have similar links” and “could expose the Association to legal consequences apart from loss of sponsorship.”
A statement issued after Saturday's Central Council meeting read: “Following a comprehensive discussion, it was overwhelmingly agreed to endorse the decision taken last December to adopt the recommendation of the Ethics and Integrity Commission report and to maintain this partnership.”
The Allianz partnership has been the subject of protests in recent months over the company's links, through its parent company and subsidiary PIMCO, to Israeli government bonds.
