Louth GAA have confirmed that All-Star defender Craig Lennon has undergone surgery following the serious knee injury he suffered against Mayo last weekend.
Lennon’s injury occurred midway through the first-half of his team’s defeat to the Westerners at Croke Park and his loss would certainly be felt, as the Wee County bowed out in their first All-Ireland SFC semi-final on 69 years on a 3-23 to 0-15 scoreline.
The St Mochta's clubman was able to walk off the field, however, following a medical assessment, he was booked in for a surgical procedure which took place during the week.
Louth GAA have since confirmed that Lennon now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he recovers from the surgery.
"Louth GAA extends its very best wishes to senior footballer Craig Lennon following a knee injury that required surgery, sustained in last weekend's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final against Mayo,” the statement read.
"While this is a hugely disappointing, everyone in Louth GAA is behind Craig at this time, and we wish him every success in his recovery. We look forward to seeing him back wearing the red jersey as soon as he is ready."
