Cork will play Tyrone in the All-Ireland minor football championship final after recording a convincing 2-19 to 2-8 win against Derry at Parnell Park this afternoon.

Keith Ricken’s side overcame the concession of two early goals to win out by 11 points in the end to book their place in the Tom Markham Cup decider against the Red Hands in two weeks’ time.

Conor O’Kane and Rocco Devlin netted the early goals that saw Derry into a 2-0 to 0-3 lead after 11 minutes in the capital, but frees from ‘keeper Rory Twohig and Darragh O’Sullivan got the Rebels to back within ahead of Twohig sailing over a free from outside the arc to push his team 0-9 to 2-1 in front.

Tomas Devlin and Don Mulholland swapped points with Eoghan Ahern (free) and Tom Whooley, which left it at 0-11 to 2-3 at half-time, and the second-half would see the Munster champions hit another gear.

After Tadhg Bradley’s point had nudged the Oak Leafers ahead seven minutes into the restart, Cork found the net with a Whooley goal and pushed further in front thanks to points by Ben Hegarty, Ahern and Joe Miskella.

Any chance of a comeback from their Ulster counterparts would be killed off by Alex O’Herlihy’s goal, which made it 2-15 to 2-7 with five minutes to go, and more points by Ahern (free), Kevin O’Donovan (2) and Whooley ensured the Leesiders’ final ticket was stamped.
