Ollie Bellew has stepped as Cavan senior hurling manager after his second term in charge of the Breffni men.
Having previously managed Cavan’s hurlers to a Lory Meagher Cup final appearance in 2021, Bellew returned for a second stint with the team in 2023 and led them to the Allianz League Division 3B title that season.
Last year saw Cavan making a run back to the Lory Meagher Cup decider where they were defeated by New York at Croke Park on a 4-17 to 2-17 scoreline.
This past season saw the Belfast native steering his team to three wins in Division 4, but it wouldn’t be enough for a league final place, prior to the Blues’ Lory Meagher Cup ending with defeat to neighbours Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon last month.
Cavan county board this morning confirmed Bellew’s decision to step down, saying that “his passion for the game and tireless efforts to develop hurling in the county have been greatly appreciated by players, supporters, and the wider GAA community.”
