Former Westmeath star Dessie Dolan says “no one would have predicted” that Kerry or Armagh would be knocked out of the All-Ireland SFC by the fourth week in June.
Following their dramatic late defeat to Louth last Sunday, the Ulster champions head for Killarney this weekend to take on the All-Ireland champions with both teams’ respective seasons on the line.
Speaking on the RTE GAA podcast ahead of this weekend’s games, Dolan said the fact that these two sides are meeting in Round 3 of the Sam Maguire Cup race is hard to believe.
"I don’t think anyone would believe that we’d have Armagh playing Kerry in Round 3, no one would have predicted that one of these teams are going to be knocked out this weekend,” said the 2004 All-Star winner.
"To be fair to Armagh, they’ve been absolutely super throughout the year. I know they maybe have lost games they possibly should have won, missed goal opportunities, whatever the case may be, but they’re a very exciting team to watch.
"They really are box office, they’ve massive support, they’ve big characters in the team, a big squad and obviously Kieran McGeeney is a very influential manager in the game."
