Diarmuid Murtagh showed a touch of class by paying tribute to the late Michael Lyster after Roscommon’s Connacht SFC final victory over Galway.

The much-loved former Sunday Game presenter passed away in March at the age of 71.

“It would be unfair not to mention a proud Galway man in Michael Lyster that wasn’t with us today,” the Roscommon captain said in his acceptance speech.

“He was the voice of the GAA and I’m sure he would have been here supporting his team.”

Roscommon’s 2001 Connacht SFC-winning squad was honoured at half-time and the St Faithleach’s clubman didn’t let the opportunity pass without remembering players Conor Connelly, Don Connellan and Ger Michael Grogan, as well as selector Jimmy Finnegan, who are sadly no longer with us.
