Offaly made a winning start to their 2026 Tailteann Cup campaign by edging out Clare on a 1-17 to 1-14 scoreline at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chísóg.
The Faithful men kicked five of the last six scores in Ennis for their first competitive win of the season and put themselves in the Round 2A section of Monday afternoon’s draw, while their Banner counterparts now go into Round 2B.
A couple of Dylan Hyland two-pointers helped the visitors to a 0-9 to 0-4 lead at half-time, but points from Cillian Brennan and Aaron Griffin either side of a Cormac Murray goal brought Clare level within 10 minutes of the restart.
Murray’s two-pointer surged the home side in front prior to Offaly getting motoring again with three Hyland scores, including a two-point free, sailing over and scores from Keith O’Neill, Hyland and Harry Plunkett (2) would put a seal on their opening win in the second tier competition.
The later game saw Wexford comfortable in their 2-19 to 1-11 victory over Limerick at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
The Slaneysiders settled with early two-pointers from Darragh Brooks (free) and Ben Brosnan and never looked back, running up a 0-12 to 0-3 before Mark McCarthy goaled for Limerick two minutes before half-time.
The second-half started in nightmare fashion for the visitors as they conceded back-to-back goals via Liam O’Connor and Michael Kinsella that suddenly created a 12-point margin between the sides.
The next three Limerick scores were two-pointers sent over James Naughton, Barry Coleman and Eliah Riordan prior to the Model men registering four points unanswered.
Darragh O’Hagan fired over from beyond the arc for the Shannonsiders with five minutes to go, and at the other end Mark Rossiter and Robbie Brooks would erase that effort prior to Naughton (free) grabbing his second two-pointer of the evening.
