Limerick bounced back from their Munster senior hurling championship defeat to Cork last weekend by delivering a clinical display against Clare in Ennis this afternoon.

It finished 2-30 to 1-18 at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg, where the visitors never looked back once Aidan O’Connor netted them in front in the third minute.

Gearoid Hegarty, Shane O’Brien (2) and O’Connor stretched the lead for the Treaty men before they won a penalty which Diarmaid Byrnes converted to the net on 18 minutes.

Mark Rodgers pulled back two points for the hosts from frees ahead of Limerick hitting four unanswered points, with Rodgers and O’Connor swapping frees late in the first-half to leave the scoreboard reading 2-15 to 0-8 at the break.

O’Connor, who tallied 1-9 over the 70 minutes, extended the advantage for John Kiely’s side early in the second-half and, while the Banner men would get a run of four unanswered points, their opponents responded in kind before seeing midfielder Adam English sent off on second yellow card in the 57th minute.

A Tony Kelly penalty three minutes later made it 2-23 to 1-14 and game’s closing stages would see O’Connor, Cathal O’Neill and O’Brien raising white flags to round off the 15-point win for Limerick.
