Roscommon are set to face Mayo in the Connacht U20 football championship final next Wednesday after edging out Galway by 2-10 to 0-15 in Castlebar yesterday evening.
Ruairi Kilcline’s 51st minute goal proved crucial for the Rossies as they held on in the closing stages to book their place in a third successive provincial decider in this grade.
It was Galway that led by 0-9 to 1-4 at half-time with the help of points from Brian O’Malley, Matthew Collins and a Mikey Mulryan two-pointer.
John McGuinness’s goal kept Roscommon right in it however and they’d draw level in the second-half thanks to three unanswered scores (two frees) from talisman Charlie O’Carroll.
Mulryan’s free nudged the Tribesmen back in front before Kilcline hammered in his goal and added a point ahead of scores at the other end from Richard McGrath and Ciaran McDonagh leaving Galway one short in the end.
