Monaghan will play Tyrone in the Ulster U20 football championship final next Wednesday evening after both sides came through their respective semi-finals last night.

Having ousted neighbours Cavan with a strong finish last week, Monaghan scored an impressive 3-13 to 1-9 victory over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds to book their place in the decider.

Max McGinnity’s goal late in the first-half saw the visitors take in a 1-6 to 0-6 lead at the break and Max Maguire would extend their lead with a two-pointer early in the restart.

Monaghan increased their lead to seven with the help of scores from Tom Doherty ahead of Armagh netting a goal through Aron McGuinness and Killian Kierans bagging two at the other end late on.

In Convoy, Tyrone battled past Donegal towards a 0-12 to 0-8 win to advance to the final.

Shea McDermott starred with 0-6 for the Red Hands over the hour, but it was the hosts that dominated large portions of the first-half as scores from Tomás Carr (two-pointer), Shane Callaghan and Max Campbell helped them to lead by 0-7 to 0-1 at half-time.

Tyrone only registered their first score on the half-hour mark through Peter Colton, but they’d come out for the second-half a transformed side with Adrian McGurren, McDermott and Leo Hughes shooting over scores that saw them hit the front.

Donegal levelled through a Lewis McCaughan ‘45’ but they wouldn’t score again, as a two-point free from Conor O’Neill was backed up by two scores from McDermott (one a ‘45’) to see the visitors over the line.
