Laois booked a Leinster senior football championship quarter-final date with Kildare next weekend after defeating Offaly by 3-12 to 0-12 in Tullamore this evening.

Kevin Swayne’s goal two minutes in marked the perfect start for the O’Moore men and, after Rioghan Murphy would split two Dylan Hyland points, Ciaran Burke had the ball in the Offaly net again in the 10th minute.

Hyland sailed over a two-pointer for the hosts and points via Jordan Hayes and Keith O’Neill followed, but Laois moved towards a 2-7 to 0-8 interval lead after singles from Evan O’Carroll (2) and Robert Tyrrell.

Ronan Coffey put half a dozen between the sides early in the restart and Justin McNulty’s men would hit the jackpot again when wing back Simon Fingleton got in for their third goal in the 38th minute.

The Faithful County brought in attackers Jack Bryant and Harry Plunkett off the bench after that, with the latter sending over a point in the 57th minute, but scores from Paul Kingston and O’Carroll helped restore the nine-point advantage for Laois ahead of Kingston (free) cancelling out one from Marcas Dalton late on.

McNulty’s charges now look forward to a provincial quarter-final date against Kildare in Newbridge on Sunday week, April 19th.
