Dublin joined Clare in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1B final thanks to a 0-34 to 2-14 victory over Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park this evening.

Niall Ó Ceallacháin’s side promoted themselves to Division 1A for next season with an impressive showing against their Leinster counterparts who have now officially been relegated to Division 2.

The capital men’s sizzing start saw them with 0-5 on the board before Carlow got their first point through Ciaran Whelan in the seventh minute, and the scores of Darragh Power, John Hetherton and Donal Burke would help the visitors to make it double scores before Martin Kavanagh grabbed a 32nd minute goal for the Barrowsiders.

Chris Nolan added another goal for home side in the run up to half-time, leaving it at 0-18 to 2-9 when the sides went in, but the second-half would see Ó Ceallacháin’s charges upping it a gear again as points from Diarmuid Ó Dúlaing, Cian O’Sullivan and Conor Groake sailed over ahead of Ó Dúlaing, David Keogh and Groake rounding off the winners’ tally in the game’s latter stages.

Having drawn with Dublin at Croke Park last month, Wexford finished with the same amount of points (9) as their capital counterparts in the Division 1B table but miss out on promotion due to an inferior score difference.

The Slaneysiders saw off Kildare by 3-29 to 1-14 this evening at Chadwicks Wexford Park, where Jack Redmond netted a hat-trick for them, but it would be enough for a place in the final alongside Clare.

Meanwhile, Down snatched a late victory against neighbours Antrim in Newry to record their first points in the closing round but it wasn't enough for them to avoid relegation.

Having held a 2-11 to 1-10 lead at half-time, the Mourne men had demonstrated tremendous fight but looked set for a sixth straight defeat after goals from Ruairi Donaghy and Seaan Elliott hit their net.

However, late points from Tim Prenter and Michael Dorrian would be backed up by a Donal Hughes goal in the seventh minute of injury-time which stunned the visitors who avoided the drop despite suffering a fifth defeat.
