Gaelic Players’ Association (GPA) has seen its motion to limit the inter-county season to 30 competitive weekends passed at GAA Congress this afternoon.

Delegates at Croke Park voted 66.7% in favour of the motion which will restrict the inter-county season calendar to 30 weekends, with the only exception being an All-Ireland final replay where, if required, the season would be extended to a 31st weekend.

“This is about the Association appreciating player welfare and the club window," GPA Chief Executive Officer Tom Parsons stated.

"Our competitions will always need to evolve, we will always need to tweak them. The 30 weeks is similar to the current footprint.

"I think it sends out a strong message about player welfare, club and county links."
