Meath edged Cavan by 2-17 to 1-18 at Kingspan Breffni this afternoon to make it two wins from two in their Allianz Football League campaign.

Having saw off Derry in their Division 2 opener last weekend, Robbie Brennan’s men backed up that result by digging deep in the latter stages of this entertaining derby clash to send over late scores via Jack Flynn (two-pointer) and Jordan Morris to claim both points.

Ruairi Kinsella’s goal had saw the visitors into a 1-4 to 0-2 lead by the 13th minute, but their Breffni counterparts battled back and Peter Corrigan’s well-taken goal would help them to restore parity come the break (1-8 to 1-8).

Matthew Costello nudged Meath back in front a minute into the restart ahead of frees from Gearoid McKiernan and Oisin Brady steering Dermot McCabe’s side ahead by the 43rd minute.

That lead would be short-lived as Morris, who won a Cavan SFC medal with Kingscourt Stars back in October, fired in the Royals' second goal soon afterwards and they’d keep three in front until unanswered points from Gearoid McKiernan (2, 1 free) and Gerard Smith levelled the sides again (2-12 to 1-15).

Meath got ahead again through James Conlon’s point, but the Blues looked to have done enough when McKiernan had a point backed up by substitute Caoimhan McGovern late on until Flynn saw his two-pointer sail between the posts and Morris would tack on another point just before the finish.

In Drogheda, Cork recorded a 1-17 to 1-12 win against Louth for a 100% start to their league campaign two games in.

John Cleary’s men were 0-5 to 0-3 up when Chris Og Jones hammered in the game's first goal in the 18th minute and a couple of two-pointers from Brian Hurley and Steven Sherlock would see them towards a 1-10 to 0-5 lead at the interval.

Scores from Sam Mulroy and Tadhg McDonnell helped the hosts reduce their arrears to five points, but Sherlock’s accuracy from placed balls at the other end kept the Leinster champions at bay as they netted a consolation goal through Dermot Campbell late on.
